With the HD73, Optoma offers a BrilliantColor-DLP projector that features 1100 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 4500:1 and a resolution of WXGA 1280 x 768. According to Optoma, the lamp has a durability of 3000 hours. For basic image adjustment, the device is equipped with horizontal and vertical keystone correction, allowing digital compensation for trapezoidal distortion at angled projection setups. Looking at practical performance, up to 337 cm can be illuminated with 1100 ANSI lumens in dark environments. Once daylight is in the room, the image should ideally be no wider than 225 cm. In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P. In the specifications, the operating noise is listed at a mere 27 decibels, indicating very quiet cooling. This model dates back to 2007 and is no longer part of Optoma's current product range.

Bought the projector second-hand with few lamp hours and was quite skeptical at the beginning because I read a lot about the projector that it has a pronounced RBE and is simply too dark. Well, I have to say it‘s true, but it‘s nowhere near as dramatic as most reports make it out to be. At least I only see the RBE with very high-contrast transitions and not always, my girlfriend doesn‘t seem to be affected. The light output is more than sufficient, I am currently only projecting onto a white-painted wall with a 220cm image width in Eco mode. The picture is very sharp, very colorful and doesn‘t give me the impression of being washed out and the black is really black! I‘m not a geek when it comes to projectors, but I have to say that the colors are reproduced very realistically. I play my DVD on my PC and just let the player itself (VLC) scale the picture to the output resolution. The picture makes a very good impression. I‘ve also been watching Wall-E in 720p for the last few days and was just happy to have bought this projector after all. For a blind purchase of 700 euros for a projector that you haven‘t seen before, it was really worth it.

Lamps reach less than 30% of the stated service life of 3000 h
We used the projector for 2.5 years. We were very satisfied with the technical performance features. However, it ate lamps: The first lamp lasted 840 h, the second only 720 h. The projector does not need a filter as the DLP optics are very well capped. However, the housing has a lot of leaks, which cause the outside to become very dirty: e.g. around the lens, all controls, connection sockets. The inside of the device is also very dirty after 2.5 years: The honeycomb grille on the lamp is only moderately permeable.
In summary, it would have been worth using a filter on the projector after all.

absolutely super black level due to Darkchip3, beautiful rich colors, I hardly see the RBE. (5 speed color wheel). However, darkening is a must, as the HD73 is not the brightest (never 1100 Ansi Lumen), but you get a picture that is second to none in this price range.
I also looked at Mitsu 1100 & 3100 in comparison and decided on the HD73 and am absolutely HAPPY.
