Categorized in the Homecinema segment, the W5000 projector from Benq projects with a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution, alongside 1200 ANSI lumens and a contrast of 10000:1. The manufacturer rates the durability of the included lamp at 2000 hours. Regarding setup flexibility, the model features an optical lens shift function alongside digital keystone correction, allowing for precise alignment; exact values can be calculated using the Projector Calculator. Regarding projection size, the value of 1200 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 352 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 235 cm. In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P. Regarding noise emissions, the model proves to be exceptionally quiet during operation, producing just 28 decibels. Since entering the market in 2007, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model. In our projector directory, the device still generates high interest.

Top picture via Blu ray, (very) good HDTV satellite picture with slight noise, very quiet in normal mode, no 24p jerking (latest software 2.01), no DLP flashes to be seen, negative zoom: to fill a 265~149 screen you need a distance of 4.85 m when zoomed in.I will have it calibrated by a friend to get the full performance of the picture! Absolutely recommendable device of the top class.in addition also on Ebay as used bargains in recent times to auction.before you buy the cheap new generation rather on an older top device.I can only recommend it, therefore voole 5 stars.

The judder is due to the 24p of the BluRay!
A projector projects a very large image, since BluRay only delivers 24 frames/s, the difference from one frame to the next is sometimes very large, which is visible as judder.
Thats why very good video games also have 60 frames/s so that nothing judders. A DVD movie has 50 half-images, which is more than double that of a BluRay! But its not as sharp.

Benq W5000
Hello
I own a Benq W5000 and am actually very happy with the projector.
Would it even be worth switching to a Benq W6000 or is there no big difference?

PS ...and what‘s the deal with the color wheel? I think the Benq W5000 has a 7-segment color wheel, the successor only has a 6-segment color wheel.

W5000 der Händlerschreck
My interest in projectors was sparked by the idea of converting my music room into a home theater.
In the search for the "usual suspects", the question of LCD or DLP arose. For me, a good DLP picture was always more vivid than that of an LCD. It is true that current LCD devices can produce more black and are more flexible in terms of positioning, but for me they remain the second choice (up to 3000 euros).
The fact that many dealers never loved it can be understood if you know the sales and purchase prices. With the current prices (1300 euros), it won‘t make any friends with them at all.

Benq W5000 top in price/performance
Hi Freaks!
After weeks of hick hack about DLP or LCD I have now decided on the W5000! The problem with projectors is that you can never compare them directly with each other! so I can only recommend every buyer: visit everywhere you can. I bought the projector because of a) low price b) quiet fan
c) bright picture d) sharp picture (there are sharper LCD - but colors burn in faster)
problem with this projector is the distance to the screen, for my 240 cm wide picture I need exactly 435 cm. so the room should be at least 500 cm long (+ beamer depth + distance for cables to the wall - you want to plug in a cable sometimes).the workmanship is great except for the adjustment ring for the sharpness, does not make a good impression, I think that the sharpness shifts slightly (still being tested).
images from BR are nice and sharp and very bright with good to very good colors.1080/24Hz is displayed excellently without jerking (purchase June 2008). unfortunately, the price of just under 2200 euros is not quite the same: HDMI cables are also included. 10 m approx. 50 - 150 €, a ceiling bracket for ceiling mounting for approx. 150 - 250 @ are also on the surcharge list. so 2200 quickly becomes about 2500 euros. if you want, you can certainly spend more money to buy a better beamer (Sharb 21000 approx. 6500.-) but since the projector market only starts with full HD projectors, 2500 euros is money well spent for an excellent projector (after all, we want something new again in 2-3 years)

Absolute buy recommendation
Super sharp picture, brilliant colors - good to very good black level
In whisper mode really very quiet in normal mode it just works
The jerking & overscan shortcoming is also fixed by the firmware 1.12
fast BenQ service when updating
For sometimes under 2000.- euro to get - so absolute buy recommendation

Benq W 5000
The processing of 24 fps is really a problem with the W 5000, I use the W 5000 together with a Sony PS3, supposedly it should work, at least that‘s what you read in various forums, but it doesn‘t, the picture is really jerky, I set the PS3 from Auto to On for 24 P output but nothing helps.
Benq is supposedly working on it, whether it can be fixed with a software update remains to be seen.
Otherwise, the Benq produces a really great picture, depending on what HD disc you use, because unfortunately not everything is as it could be with HD DVDs.
The distance to the screen to project a 2 meter wide picture is large with the W 5000, but the projector should actually be placed as far back as possible, in any case behind the last person in the room, as in the cinema, where the projector is not in the middle of the room.

W 5000 from BENQ
Sharp, brilliant picture with good definition in dark areas. Good black level
Big drawback:
The projector does not process a 1080/24Hz (i.e. high-resolution feed from Bluray or HD-DVD) correctly. The picture jerks when the camera pans!
