Based on SXRD technology, the Sony VPL-VW890ES projects images in a Homecinema environment, with technical specs listing 2200 ANSI lumens and a UHD (4K2K) 3840 x 2160 resolution. The manufacturer lists the lifespan for this model at 20000 hours – equivalent to a usable life of 13.7 years at 4 hours a day. An integrated lens shift provides significant leeway for placement. The lens can be adjusted to precisely align the image even with off-center installations. The optical system is designed for the use of interchangeable lenses, allowing for a tailor-made configuration for almost any throw ratio. The Projector Calculator is available to calculate the exact dimensions. Looking at practical performance, up to 477 cm can be illuminated with 2200 ANSI lumens in dark environments. Once daylight is in the room, the image should ideally be no wider than 318 cm. In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P and 4K as well as 3D, meaning standard Blu-ray formats are processed effortlessly. The model is perfectly equipped for complex installations: In addition to the RJ45 jack for network administration, an HDBaseT port is available, transporting high-resolution AV signals over a single Cat cable. The projector was released in 2020 and is officially no longer distributed by Sony.
