The VPL VW80 is a Laser-SXRD projector by Sony, whose specifications list 800 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 60000:1 and a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution. According to Sony, the included lamp lasts up to 3000 hours. The presence of a lens shift function enables flexible vertical or horizontal positioning of the projector. The achievable distances are shown in the Projection Calculator. A look at the light output reveals: The 800 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 287 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 191 cm. Regarding signal processing, the model is compatible with incoming 1080P content. A look at the data sheet confirms a very subtle fan noise for the projector at just 20 decibels. The projector was released in 2008 and is officially no longer distributed by Sony. This model continues to hold a solid place in our database search queries.
