Model Overview Known as the VPL HW50ES, this 3D-Laser-SXRD projector by Sony features basic specs of 1700 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 100000:1 at a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution. The manufacturer lists the lamp life at 2000 hours.
In terms of image alignment, the model offers an optical lens shift function, allowing the image to be shifted without quality loss. The exact adjustment leeway can be calculated in the Distance Calculator.
Looking at practical performance, up to 419 cm can be illuminated with 1700 ANSI lumens in dark environments. Once daylight is in the room, the image should ideally be no wider than 279 cm.
In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P as well as 3D.
A look at the data sheet confirms a very subtle fan noise for the projector at just 21 decibels. Since entering the market in 2012, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model. This model continues to hold a solid place in our database search queries.

1 Star Nicht langzeitstabil. Poor support!
On delivery top. After a few hundred hours, the color and gamma collapse. Warranty refused by Sony. Is "within the expected range". There can be no question of long-term stability. Seems to be a series defect that Sony doesn‘t want to correct (see Hifi forum) Embarrassing.

5 Stars Super Beamer
I looked at various projectors at two projector dealers, including the usual suspects such as the X35 from JVC and the 9200 from Epson. In the overall package, the Sony is a dream for us. It hangs above our heads on the living room ceiling. The whisper-quiet fan makes a positive impression here, not to mention the beautiful appearance of the casing (ours is white). The black of the picture doesn‘t quite come close to the black of the JVC, but almost. 3D is also very good, even when little used. What I immediately noticed positively during installation is that I no longer have to darken the screen completely when watching soccer, as was the case with my old projector.

5 Stars What a projector!
This projector beats everything I‘ve ever owned, including my SONY 1292 (CRT). Especially the sharpness of detail in combination with the almost perfect black level (like CRT) and the Motionflow engine make this projector a real bullet! 3D is an absolute pleasure, perhaps marred a little by the fact that with small screens (<2m diagonal) you can notice the pulsing of the lamp, which is no longer noticeable with my 3m screen.

5 Stars Viagra for the eyes 2d and 3d
I compared JVC X55 and Epson 9100 with Sony HW50 at Heimkinoraum in Munich.3D was HW50 clearly ahead against Epson 9100 because of intermediate image calculation. Brightness Epson and Sony were almost equal but sharpness 3D and contrast Sony was clearly better, JVC X55 too dark.
Then 2D for dark basement cinema super black and very good sharpness and top contrast is the JVC X55
class, but the Sony HW50 is brighter and has more punch in the picture and the RC circuit makes a sharper picture, at least subjectively.
If you only watch science fiction films, you might have more fun with the JVC, but the Sony is only slightly worse in black. Overall, the Sony simply has a stronger, more intense image in the A B comparison against the JVC X55, which even a beginner who has no idea can see. all in all, the Sony is ahead of the JVC X55 and Epson 9100 and I bought the Sony HW50. however, everyone should still test it themselves, as opinions differ greatly on projectors.

5 Stars evolution!
when you consider what kind of picture this projector throws onto the screen, 3000 euros is rather a bargain. perhaps sony has
shot itself a goal because why should you spend more on a projector? no one needs more projectors. others will have to measure themselves against the hw 50 and that won‘t be easy. for me, the hw 50 is an evolution in terms of projector technology. i don‘t know of any other projector in the 5000 euro class that offers all this.

5 Stars The Hammer!
Also around 3000 euros with 2 pieces of 3D glasses is not an ultra bargain for this projector but worth this price with the offered performance in any case. Here you are finally really well supplied in both areas (2d and 3d). Reality Creation from the 4k beamer vw 1000 is already the hammer (very detailed and sharp picture) in addition super motion sharpness (film look is maintained) by motionflow 240 heart (also active in 3d). Furthermore, very good brightness in 3D and virtually no ghosting problems. The color reproduction of the last sony series has always been top. Contrast and black levels are very good and especially the detail in dark areas is fascinating. An ultra-quiet device (21 db) even in lamp-high mode (3d). Sometimes I wonder whether it is even switched on (without film sound) ;) Really a great projector where the owner can be more than satisfied in the near future...
