I can only agree with the previous comments! A great projector... I recently bought it in the bay and have now replaced it with the BG808S in my living room. Compared to the BG808S, the picture is much more vivid, more colorful and somewhat more powerful. There is also a gain in sharpness. I‘m not surprised as it‘s a 9-inch tube projector and the optics do the rest.

I have been using the 1292 in my home theater for 3 years now. It serves a 3m wide screen and projects all common HDTV formats. I completed the 3D conversion of my home cinema a year ago, and since then the 1292 has also been delivering the images for 3D Blu-rays (720p@120Hz), which it does with ease.
Super colors, super contrast, absolute black and absolute sharpness (no wonder, the projector was originally intended for CAD applications), no other projector can match it so quickly. It‘s always a pleasure for me to see what my 1292 can do in the HDTV environment and how bad the picture of expensive DLPs or LCDs is in some cases
I have carried out a fan modification, since then it has been running without a housing in a hushbox at a whisper-quiet 35 dB.
The only drawback is of course the size and the low brightness, but this doesn‘t have an effect in a dedicated home theater, as the installation is stationary (in my case it hangs from the ceiling) and the home theater is completely dark.
If you want to achieve a comparable picture with another technology such as DLP, D-ILA or similar, you have to dig pretty deep into your pocket (>5000€), it‘s a good feeling that I had to spend a fraction of that amount for my 1292

5 Stars High End 9 inch EMF CRT
The Sony VPH 1292 is one of the very few projectors that can natively display ALL existing HDTV formats for the next few years or so without limitations.

Only very few other projection systems can do this. All other projectors will have to rescale the upcoming 1920 x 1080i to their panel. In addition to often jerky effects when panning, this means a loss of resolution or sharpness in any case.

Resolutions of 1920 x 1080i pixels can only be achieved by projectors priced from approx. 25,000 €.

The projector is therefore an absolutely future-proof investment

The fact that it is a tube projector means that there is no pixel rasterization. The picture is comparable to cinema 35 mm projectors, except that the Sony can offer a better contrast value. With film, the contrast range Full ON/OFF is approx. 1900:1.

Peak contrasts of 10000:1 and more are possible with this Sony. This is made possible by the liquid-coupled, reverberation-optimized Delta HD 10f optics. The liquid-coupled optics minimize so-called halation effects.

Furthermore, this projector has an electromagnetic focus. This ensures that the electron beam remains sharp in every operating situation. Even if contrast and brightness are adjusted accordingly.

The very large 9 inch tubes make high resolutions possible due to the large surface area. Also due to the large surface, the video image appears very 3-dimensional.

Due to the scanning range of horizontal 135 Khz and vertical 150Hz, all currently offered resolutions can be displayed.

The projector is optionally linedoubler, -tripler, quadrupler capable. And this also with 100 Hz.

If you are looking for something at the absolute high end, this is the right choice. For comparison: A Barco in the Cinemax, 9 class is currently around 50,000 euros with comparable performance
