Model Overview Based on SXRD technology, the Sony SRX R220 / 3D projects images in a E-Cinema environment, with technical specs listing 18000 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 4000:1 and a UHD (4K+2K) 4096 x 2160 resolution. According to Sony, the included lamp lasts up to 600 hours.
A major advantage for professional installations is the ability to use interchangeable lenses, allowing the projector to adapt to highly varied projection distances. Which optic is required for a specific case can easily be calculated via the Lens Calculator.
Looking at practical performance, up to 813 cm can be illuminated with 18000 ANSI lumens in dark environments. Once daylight is in the room, the image should ideally be no wider than 542 cm.
Regarding signal processing, the model is compatible with incoming 1080P content and 4K as well as 3D, meaning standard Blu-ray formats are processed effortlessly. For convenient remote monitoring and administration, the projector is equipped with a classic RJ45 network socket.
Since entering the market in 2007, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model. In our projector directory, the device still generates high interest. Note: According to our information, replacement lamps (original or generic) are no longer available for this projector.

In the home theater where can you buy such a projector ? as a private person

5 Stars Experience of a cinema employee in a foreign cinema
I recently saw this projector in (Ice Age 3D) at the Gelsenkirchen multiplex for job-related reasons and have to say that it is also far superior in 3D, which is actually the main discipline of its DLP cinema brothers. The better image impression is probably due to the fact that the resolution is high enough for both 2K images to be projected simultaneously. This is much more pleasant for the eyes and can only be reproduced similarly well with DLP projection using 2 projectors, which in turn is much more expensive than purchasing an SRX projector. In addition, this does not leave the option of 4K projection open.

I have already seen the demo installation of the predecessor in Münster and have to say that the image impression is brilliant (colors perfect...) and I have only seen a comparable image sharpness in the Imax so far. Even though the projector was only running at 2K when I watched a movie (except for the Sony spot), the image impression was much better than with DLP, especially in the front rows, where the sensitive eye can still see digital steps in scenes with particularly high contrast and sharpness. This makes a good 35mm print better, even if it does not achieve the absolute resolution of 2k. (as long as the image quality of the copy and the projector are good -> unfortunately this is becoming increasingly rare) It is also possible to use existing screens, as the fill factor is extremely high compared to DLP.

The weaknesses of DLP start with the fact that the distances between the pixels are so large that this grid tends to interfere with the perforation of the screen. This grid can be seen with the naked eye in bright scenes. In my opinion, something like this does not belong in a movie theater! (at least the first two rows would have to be removed in most cinemas) Even a 2K SRX projection would therefore look better than DLP and would also have no problems with the screens already installed (well, for 3D a new silver screen is needed anyway, at least for polarization).

In my opinion, the Sony 4k projection is far ahead of the 2K DLP projection, and the difference will, in my opinion, be visible to the normal moviegoer even without direct comparison (and this is not necessarily only due to the resolution, 2k vs 4k is another topic). The SRX projection simply delivers a very homogeneous, pleasant image, which is definitely better than that of the DLP candidates (which aren‘t really bad either). With the SRX projection, I‘m happy to give up my box seat and sit in the middle of the auditorium. I can only hope that we install such a system in our movie theater when we upgrade, otherwise I‘ll probably have to drive the 100km to Gelsenkirchen more often. (It‘s just stupid that I can‘t get free tickets there :-)

By the way, this is not meant to be a value post. I am simply overwhelmed by the picture quality on offer and anyone who is interested in such technology and within reach should make a trip to Gelsenkirchen. (But please for a different movie, Ice Age 3 was nice to watch (thanks to the outstanding projection) but very boring).

We use the projector in our cinema and it‘s simply amazing, the colors and sharpness are much better than the analog projectors. The costs for the replacement lamps are immense but we have much higher revenues since we use the projector so the costs for the replacement lamps remain manageable
Our visitors are impressed with this projector you can‘t go wrong
