This projector is named EH TW5500, originates from Epson, and its data sheet shows 1600 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 200000:1 and a resolution of HDTV 1920 x 1080. The manufacturer rates the durability of the included lamp at 4000 hours. A daily usage of 2 hours makes an operational lifespan of 5.5 years possible. In terms of image alignment, the model offers an optical lens shift function, allowing the image to be shifted without quality loss. The exact adjustment leeway can be calculated in the Distance Calculator. A look at the light output reveals: The 1600 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 406 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 271 cm. For media input, video signals up to 1080P are supported. A look at the data sheet confirms a very subtle fan noise for the projector at just 30 decibels. This model dates back to 2009 and is no longer part of Epson's current product range. In our projector directory, the device still generates high interest.
I had the opportunity to compare the 9400 with my 5500LPE directly in my movie theater. The 9400 was worse! Especially the picture sharpness! At first I thought I had got a defective 9400. But when I returned it, my test 9400 was compared directly with another 9400. Both identical! So it is blurry compared to my 5500! I hate EPSON for no longer producing lamps for the 5500! Mine is still almost new and then luckily I got hold of an original Epson. After that it will be exciting. The 5500LPE is a top beamer that I wouldn‘t want to swap!

Top projector
Even in this day and age of 4K projectors and TVs, everyone who comes to my home theater is impressed by the picture. I was able to get hold of this great projector used in top condition and bought an original replacement lamp to have fun with the projector for a long time to come. Really cool colors, and super contrast. I‘m super happy with the good old thing :-) and that in 2022!

Unbeatable
Have been using the TW5500 for 11 years. No problems at all. Incredible native contrast and the frame interpolation makes everything look smooth and coherent.
The device is also very quiet.
I think it will be many years before I switch to a new device.

Super device, bad service
Have had the device for 9 years, bought it in the LPE when it first came out, but that was a coincidence, when I ordered it I was asked if I wanted the new LPE edition for the same price.
Then after 3 months pink and green stripes, polarizing filter defective. The device is permanently installed in the false ceiling. Off to EPSON, then back from the clean room in France after 7 weeks. Approx. 1 year later, i.e. still under warranty, after approx. 1200 lamp hours, a crack, picture dark, lamp exploded, warranty rejected. It has now been playing with the new lamp for 7 years, 2 years ago the input board broke, it was a lightning strike that took some devices with it, the € 600 was covered by the insurance, but all in all you can say that the EPSON service is really the last thing, because of the long repair of the polarizing filter and not replacing the lamp after 2 years. So I‘ll never use an EPSON device again, the new ones no longer fit in my false ceiling as the parts are getting bigger and bigger and now have the optics in the middle
About the device itself, I can only say that it‘s absolutely great, we watch 1-2 times a week and it‘s always a pleasure to see the black image in space films and the great colors (Valerian). I hope it lasts a long time, in the meantime I still have a Panasonic PX-1000 which is even older than the backup :-), but it‘s in a completely different league.
I‘m actually dreading the day when I have to buy a replacement, somehow I can‘t see any alternatives despite a budget of around 3000 euros. Maybe in a few years the 4K UHD laser models will be affordable.

Grandiose
The projector is and remains an almost unchallengeable brilliance miracle in terms of intermediate image calculation, sharpness, color reproduction, black level and adjustment. It is fun to use in all modes and its color space can be precisely adjusted to produce a perfect video image. It‘s no coincidence that the home cinema magazine gave it a grade of 1 and it‘s a top-class high-end device! .... I won‘t be giving it away again!
(on the subject of service at Epson, the colleague is not entirely wrong, they always want to replace the motherboard if something is wrong with their devices...always the same... the service is really questionable, I already made my experience here years ago not to have Epson devices repaired at Epson - just call www.videoprojektor24.de, they are competent and friendly!
My old ones since the 90s were the EMP 7300, EH-TW 700, EH-TW 1000, EH-TW 2000, EH-TW 3500 and now the 5500, so there is no reason to rate the projector badly because the service is not right! - The picture was always right)

Top!
Much better than new devices in the price range under 1500€, as long as you can do without built-in speakers and 3D.
The picture is very balanced. Great colors, sufficient luminescence and on the other hand a very good black level, which appears almost perfectly black in short scenes. If the eye has a little time to adjust, you can of course still see residual light. I would buy it again and again.

Not recommended
EPSON did not see the need to accommodate my goodwill request in any way. Not even half of the 624,- Euro costs for a new mainboard EPSON wanted to accommodate me as a longtime customer.
After all, it‘s the mainboard of the projector and if it‘s defective after only 3 years, that doesn‘t speak for the quality.
The fact that EPSON doesn‘t accommodate me either speaks even less for the service.

Black is beautiful
My experience so far is based on "only" 1000 lamp hours:
This device really is a true premium projector for me. The difference to today‘s entry-level class is enormous, despite the fact that the TW5500 is no longer a youngster in terms of technology. I see its primary strength in the reproduction of black... It really is a deep black that makes every space sci-fi or horror movie a real treat. I still wonder from time to time how it is possible to bring such black to a white screen. The second strength for me is the naturalness of the colors in LPE mode. The filter supplied swallows little light and makes the picture simply damn realistic and pleasant to look at. No more squeaky color casts like with some other devices, although I have to say that today‘s entry-level class is already doing a great job here! The third (for me important) strength is the response time (input lag). This is below the values of some new projectors (approx. 30- max. 40ms), which for me means gaming suitability. It won‘t make you a world leader in 3D shooters, as every millisecond counts, but projectors are generally not suitable for this. You don‘t have that typical spongy feeling that occurs with lags >50ms
Compared to today‘s (2013) LCD entry-level class, this projector delivers a very great sharpness, whereby DLPs are inherently even sharper. My device also has almost perfect convergence.
The projector deserves 6 stars, and 1 star is deducted due to a few mini weaknesses: 1) The brightness is very good, but the new devices on the market are simply more powerful light cannons. I therefore operate my TW5500 in normal mode, i.e. the lamp will certainly not get very old. 2) Unfortunately, my device has a small yellowish shading cloud that is only minimally visible in bright scenes. The perfectionist in me screams for a warranty claim, the scaredy-cat doesn‘t want to send it in, as it is possible that the replaced optical unit has poorer convergence (series variation). 3) An indirect consequence of point 1: The high lamp mode requires a high fan speed -> a certain (not unpleasant) background noise is always present. In this respect, the DLPs I know are much nastier.
Conclusion: A top device that, in my opinion, is worth more used than the new entry-level projectors. I deliberately ignore the 3D functionality of the others, as 90% of the time you want a perfect 2D picture.

EH TW 5500 LPE
After approx. 8000 hours (1 replacement lamp) the colors could no longer be adjusted correctly (white balance).
Since the device was only 2 years old (LPE = 3 years warranty) the device was repaired by Epson without any problems (optical unit was replaced).
I am still very impressed by the ingenious picture of the projector, strong colors, good contrast, picture even appears slightly three-dimensional.

TW5500 LPE
Have had the projector for 1.5 years and 400 hours on the lamp, so far without any defects
have looked through countless magazines and compared it with other projectors before buying
was also at Mediastar in Stuttgart and compared a BenQ 6500 with the TW5500
and the Sharp 12000 for 2 hours, conclusion no matter which projector DLP Lcd or LCOS
DLP has the best sharpness with still images or still images. The Ansi contrast is visibly better with still images, but now comes the decisive point, if movement comes into play, the property immediately turns
in all respects every movie consists of moving images is also good and
so it immediately changes the image characteristics and no one has noticed it
Static sharpness better with DLP or. Ansi Kon trast better than LCD
The smooth picture sharpness with movement with Epson is simply super and
I think it‘s still the best on the whole market
If DLP can manage the picture movement like Epson I‘ll be a DLP fan again
At the moment I think Epson is still ahead in price performance but times
are changing the competition doesn‘t sleep soon it will be different again
But the most important thing must not be forgotten it‘s always the personal liking of a projector that decides and they are usually very different.
