The PG M20S is a DLP projector by Sharp, whose specifications list 1300 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 1000:1 and a SVGA 800 x 600 resolution. The manufacturer lists the lamp life at 2000 hours. A look at the light output reveals: The 1300 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 314 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 209 cm. This model dates back to 2002 and is no longer part of Sharp's current product range.

Before my old projector, also a Sharp, slowly reached the end of its safe retirement after eight years of use, I went in search of a new one. I tested a few devices in a specialist store and was not satisfied with their picture quality. The friendly salesman told me that he knew what I was looking for and if I had time to wait half an hour, he would get a device from the warehouse with which he could impress me. And so it was. The SHARP PG-M20 projector impressed me with its picture quality. I took the device with me immediately. At the checkout, the lady said, "So much money for such a small package!" When I got home, I had a friend make me a stainless steel ceiling mount. The projector has interfaces for DVI digital computer RGB signals, a connection for a video device with an S-VIDEO connection and a normal video connection. The DVI connection is SXGA+, SXGA and XGA compatible. The resolution is 800 × 600, the other resolutions are adapted or compressed. It can therefore process resolutions from 640 × 350 to 1,280 × 1,024 and even 1,280 × 960. The projector also has a connection for computers via USB cable. This means that a presentation can be switched back and forth using the projector‘s remote control. There is also a loudspeaker, but this can only be used for a mouse cinema at best. All cables, a carrying bag, lens cover, connection cover, remote control with batteries etc. are included in the package. Everything is there, except the 20 meter DVI cable to the PC.
For the projection distance, I attached the ceiling mount exactly according to the helpful table in the instructions. In my opinion, the keystone correction should not be used as the picture quality suffers a little. However, if the projector is installed correctly, the keystone correction is not needed anyway.
The operation is very simple, but the menu is still very extensive. From selecting the progressive display of a video signal, power-saving mode, automatic power-off function, selecting a background image to setting a password, everything is available. The individual buttons on the remote control are also available on the device. This means that the device can still be operated even if the batteries in the remote control are flat. The operating instructions are very easy to understand but also very detailed, so details such as the 29-pin connection polarity of the DVI plug are explained in great detail
The lamp should be replaced after 1900 hours, according to the instructions, if the projector should experience this. The colors on my 230 cm wide and 170 cm high screen are vivid and the image sharpness is also sufficient. The light intensity is sufficient in a slightly darkened room. The projector cannot be used in daylight and the fans are inaudible. There are quieter devices
The projector worked well for me for approx. 850 hours and then came to customer service because the picture flickered and then switched off. The device was actually still under warranty, but the lamp was replaced and this is unfortunately not covered by the warranty. After about 100 hours, the fault returned and another repair was needed, which was unsuccessful. So a year went by and the projector was almost exclusively in the repair lab until I wrote a letter directly to Sharp Europe. They promised to improve the situation and I was told to send the device to another laboratory, which repaired the device again, but this was also pointless. The projector runs for about 10 minutes at a time. It then changes colors, flickers and switches off. I bought a new device from a different manufacturer
I have the SHARP PG-M20 in the cupboard and still hope that I can find a technician who can still repair this device for me.
